Bearhub
The challenge is to design 'BearHub,' a platform that addresses the diverse needs of Berkeley students by facilitating the discovery of clubs and resources tailored to their individual preferences. Our goal is to personalize and streamline the school experience, making it effortless for students to find and engage with the resources they need, thus enhancing their academic and social journey at Berkeley.

CalLink
Extensive Database: A lot of accessible information on clubs and organizations
Diverse Selection: Wide variety of clubs catering to numerous interests
Detailed Administrative Information: CalLink designation, student composition, and advisor contacts, aiding in verification of membership.
Weak UI/UX: Endless scrolling and overwhelms users
Limited Filtering: Keyword search + drop down menu of categories (ex. ASUC, art), but no detailed filtering options (ex. interest, major, etc.)
Outdated Listings: Includes both active and inactive clubs
Inconsistent Contact Information: Hard to find club contact details
Discord
Clean Design: UI is easy for user to navigate, user-friendly
Neat Organization: Organized server structures with channels, categories, and roles for all communities
Bot Integration: Enhances servers by adding different bots to provide features, tools, & entertainment options
Overwhelming: Too many features and options
Moderation Issues: Can be difficult to enforce rules for larger communities, leading to users misusing the server
Text-Heavy Interface: Relies heavily on text-based communication, which may not be as visually engaging for users who prefer graphics
Connex
Saving feature: bookmark clubs which will stay at the top of the site
Progress bar: see % of club applications you have finished
Comprehensive club info: estimated # of members, recruitment timelines, social media links, club type tags
Only lists business/consulting clubs: only shows 37 clubs out of the hundreds at Cal
Berkeley Clubs
User-Friendly Interface: better interface than CalLink
Variety of search options: search bar category buttons (club, sports, greek life) filters
Instagram
Story: It is easy for users to post on stories to send timely information out
Engagement: Instagram offers engagement features such as likes, comments, and direct messages
Layout: The layout of an Instagram account homepage makes it very easy for users to check out all recent posts and choose specific posts they are interested in
Limited linking options: Linking to external sites on Instagram can be complicated
Lack of Analytics: Users cannot track and evaluate how successful their advertisements are
Users have to follow first: Users who are not following the club account cannot see the posts

Second Iteration

Based on feedbacks from our client as well as group-critique sessions, we made changes to our navigation bar, the search bar, and the profile session.

1
A home page was added to our design, including suggestions of clubs to follow as well as suggested events.
2
Three options were added to the search page to make it easier for users to search.

2
Second Problem Encountered: What Should Be on the Home Page
Initially, the idea was to make discovery page the home page. However, this results in an extra step for users if they want to check their upcoming events.

Solution: Make “my upcoming events” page the home page, add suggested events on the page to make it both useful for checking upcoming events as well as discovering new events.
